Five Sins That God Hates

We live in a time of change, there have been more things happen in the last 100 years, than any other time in history. It is hard to believe that we went from horse and buggies to cars that can race over 235 mph on the Autobahn, and all, in just the last 100 years.

We have to remember that only 100 years ago we still hadn't figured out how to get a man to fly for any distance in a plane. Now we have space shuttles going to and fro in outer space just as Daniel the prophet said we would. We have landed people on the moon, and just as God said, when men were building a tower that would reach up to heaven to make a name for them selves:

“Indeed the people are one and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do; now nothing that they propose to do will be withheld from them.
Gen 11:5

God knew that man would go on from there and accomplish the things that some would think were impossible. Man did go on, he went on so far as to reject the one who created him, he replaced his God with the things that lusted after, he became arrogant, proud and full of self admiration.

He became like God, knowing good and evil. He became like one, who is driven by the things he sees and wants. There is no pleasure that he won't pursue, or any limit that he will restrain himself with. Anything that he imagines, whether it is good or bad, he will do.

Why ?

Because he is programmed with evil from the moment he takes his first breath. He is born into the sins of his forefathers, all the way back to Adam and Eve. This rebellion is coded in the DNA structure of man from conception.

Man has to battle with making choices, to do right or wrong, every day of his life. He has to make decisions that will have long lasting effects, on who he is, and what he will become. Some of the decisions he will make will affect his own personal life, or the lives of others around him, good or bad, for a short time, or for many years to come.

The choices we make, will determine if we will live a peaceful life, or a life filled with chaos and uncertainty. What ever we imagine to do, is what will determine our course of life for the next 1- 50 years to come.

So we have to be careful to make the right choices…

We have to make sure we have boundaries that will keep us from making bad decisions that will affect our lives in a destructive way. The scripture says:

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Hosea 4:6

Some people think they have all the knowledge in the world, one guy started to tell me about this huge conspiracy that all the governments of the world were in on. He went on and on about this conspiracy, and that conspiracy, with a look of determination that showed me that he was totally sold on the topic. The problem was that he was quoting from the book “ The DeVincy Code, and he must have overlooked the part that said, the book was fiction.

People will always believe whatever tickles their ears. They will believe something without even doing the least amount of research to confirm weather it is true or false.

Then some people will do the extreme opposite to prove a point. They will research and research, to try to get any materials they can, to back up what they say, even if it's wrong, and every expert will tell them. They don't care, just as long as they are right in their own eyes.

We have the freedom to be as sidetracked as we want to be, that is our right as human beings. We can be carried away with whatever the flavor of the day is, whatever is popular that week. We can believe what we want to believe.

Here is something that is simple to understand, we don't even have to do a whole bunch research to get it.

God hates sin.

We all know that. That must be imbedded into our DNA too. I don't know if that is scientific fact, but I think it has to be true. Because everyone I know or have ever met, knows when they are blowing it and doing what they know is wrong.

There are five sins that God really hates.

The first is pride.

“ Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith. “ Indeed, because he transgresses by wine, He is a proud man, and he does not stay at home. Because he enlarges his desire as hell, Habakkuk 2:4-5

This scripture says that the soul of a proud man is not upright.

Why ?

Because a proud man never needs God, there's no room for God in his life because he is too focused on himself day and night, everything he does is for self gratification. It's all about me, me, me. I want, I want, I want !!!

A prideful man is self centered; he is never reaching out unless there is some reward or recognition to be gained from it. If there is a way of doing something, for someone else, that will draw attention to themselves, then the prideful man or woman will do it. There always has to be some kind of recognition in it for them, or they won't do it. Look at all the causes Hollywood actors get involved with.

What is pride ?

Webster's says:

1 : the quality or state of being proud: as a: inordinate self-esteem :
2 : proud or disdainful behavior or treatment
3. conceit, excessive appreciation of one's own worth or virtue

Prideful people can develop excessive self esteem. Everything they do is greater than everyone else, everything they think is much more intelligent, they play harder, take greater risks even if it is dangerous to their well being. They also get involved in things that they should never get involved with.

The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way, and the perverse mouth I hate. Proverbs 8:13

With pride comes arrogance. You don't have to be rich or influential to be full of pride. I see it all the time in this park, especially in people who have nothing, yet by the way they talk you would think they owned the world. They are louder than everyone around them, they are more disruptive than most people around them, they are involved in more sin than anyone around them and they are more proud of that.

A man's pride will bring him low, But the humble in spirit will retain honor. Prov.29:22

That's what is so funny about pride, it makes, you think you are more than what you really are. Most prideful people are insecure and afraid. They fear people will see them the way they really are, wounded and damaged people hiding behind a wall of ego that they have built for themselves .

When they should be taking in wisdom that will help them improve their lives, they are trying to prevent others from improving theirs. Misery likes company.

Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall. Prov. 16:18

Have you seen these people in the news who had it all, then lost it because they became involved in things that they should have never done because they were to egotistical to do what is right ?

God hates Pride because it always leads people further into sin and immorality.

The next thing that God hates is:

Coveting and Greed:

Coveting and Greed leads a man down the road of total destruction. What he has is never good enough for him, a covetous person always wants more, he wants whatever someone else has. It could be an item, it can be someone else's girlfriend or spouse. It doesn't matter what it is, he knows that he just wants it.

Coveting also leads to a another sin that really becomes consuming, Greed.

Once you have whatever it was that you desired so much, now you don't want anyone else to have it. So you will do whatever it takes to keep it, even if you have to be violent to keep it.

God knew that coveting would be such a huge sin, that He made it one of the ten commandments:

“You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.” Ex.20:17

What is the modern day word for coveting ?

Stealing. How many people are always ripping off other people. It happens all the time. Here's the funny part, thieves rip off thieves. If one thief steals something that the other thief likes, the other thief will come and steal it from that thief.

God even said they would in the scriptures:

The wicked covet the catch of evil men, But the root of the righteous yields fruit. Prov:12:12

The third sin God hates is:

Violence:

The LORD tests the righteous, But the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates. Psalms 11:5

Violence is plaguing America, and it has plagued history. Violence is bad enough by itself, but it never comes about because someone wants to be violent. There is usually some kind of animosity or hatred involved in violence.

Associated Content News wrote an article on violence and here is what it had to say:

America may be the most violent country in the world when compared to other industrialized nations. Violence is deeply rooted in American society, and has become woven into the fabric of American lifestyle. Violence invades our intimate relationships, our schools, and our work environments.

The increase of violence, and our awareness of violence, changes the way we live. Fear of violence, crime, and gangs can make us feel like prisoners in our own homes. Unsafe feelings, neighborhoods can make us feel unsafe about going out at night. In some neighborhoods, children are killed in drive by shootings at schools, on the streets, in neighborhoods, in playgrounds and even in their own homes. There are many people, both adults and children, that carry guns, knives and chemical sprays for protection.

Alcohol, a widely accepted legal drug, is the drug most associated with violence. Alcohol and drug abuse is associated with about 50% of spousal abuse cases, 49% of homicides, 38% of child abuse cases and 52% of rapes.

Violence affects everyone in society. Violence has a direct impact upon the victim, of course. Violence results in broken families, abused women, child abuse, depression and grieving. Violence impacts the communities, schools and families. The financial cost of violence included medical and medical treatment, emergency response, productivity losses and the expenses of the criminal justice system.

Violence in America. December 28, 2006 by Christine Bude

Do I see violence in this park ?

All the time. The scriptures say:

They are not in trouble as other men, Nor are they plagued like other men. Therefore pride serves as their necklace; Violence covers them like a garment. Psalms 73:5-6

Pride and violence go hand in hand. Someone says something, someone else reacts, and it goes on and on. God hates violence because so much stupidity is involved in violence. Violent people don't exercise good judgment because they are blinded to the real source, demonic activity.

The fourth sin God hates is:

Drunkenness:

And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, Eph. 5:18

Webster's defines Drunkenness as:

To spend or use up wastefully or foolishly, an act of self-indulgence, disintegration (to break or decompose), wasteful expenditure, intemperate living (given to excessive use of intoxicating liquors),

When a person is drunk or they are an alcoholic, people have trouble being around them. Some are obnoxious (highly offensive), some don't bathe, and other's leave a mess wherever they go, some are mean and want to make trouble. When you are homeless and drink too much, the result is more intense, you don't have the resources that other people have, so the public is going to look at you more harshly.

Being in a drunken stupor keeps you from experiencing the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. We are the temple of God, if the temple is defiled, the Holy Spirit will not dwell there.

Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are. 1 Corinthians 3:16-18
Sounds pretty harsh, but that's OK. I would rather someone be harsh to me, and make me respond, than to say nothing at all and let me walk blindly ahead. We are not allowed to destroy the temple that God has built, because it was formed out of God's love for us.

What if you worked hard to make something that you really loved, then someone came along who didn't care how much was spent to make it, or how long it took to build it or even if they were permitted to even touch it, and yet they did and they broke it.

Would you be mad at them ?

Yes, you would. They didn't care about the thing that you valued so much. That is exactly how much God cares about His creation and your body. He said that you are to be a holy dwelling for His Spirit. Some of us understand this, while others treat this temple as if they were a slum lord renting one of the slum house in a run down neighborhood.

And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Romans 8:10-12

If Christ is in you… and that is the big if…many will say that Christ is in them, but their lives don't show that. When the Spirit of God is alive and living in you, you cannot do the things you used to do, you cannot stay the way that has always been destructive to your life, you have to change. Change, as I have told you many times, is inevitable.

Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 2 Corinthians 3:16-17

If the Spirit of God is dwelling in you, then you cannot stay the way you have always been, you cannot keep on defiling your body, because if the Spirit of God is in you, you will change.

So you have to ask yourself, if the Holy Spirit is dwelling in my temple, does it show in my life ?

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17

Finally, the last sin that God hates is:

Idolatry:

The definition of idolatry is:

1 : the worship of a physical object as a god
2 : immoderate attachment or devotion to something
When people think idolatry, they usually think of images that people worship. Idolatry is that, but it can also be anything that you place before trusting God with your life. Anything, that you take comfort in, apart from believing that God will do what He says He will do in your life.

Idolatry comes in many forms, it can be something you do that you don't even know is idolatrous, it could be an eating disorder, drinking too much alcohol and not being able to stop, pornography, sexual addiction, perversion and many more things that entrap you.

The Scriptures make this clear:

“ Harlotry, wine, and new wine enslave the heart. Hosea 4:11

Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
Colossians 3:5

For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.
1 Samuel 15:23

Idolatry is as I said before, anything you place before the will of God in your life.

What do we do if we are guilty of any of the five sins that turn into hundreds of sins when you take into account everything that is involved with sin ? What do we do ?

The scriptures not only tell us what the sickness is that we are suffering from, they also give us the cure…

Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry. 1 Corinthians 10:14

But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:11-12

that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:22-24

Flee Pride
Flee Coveting
Flee violence
Flee Drunkenness
Flee Idolatry

Your eternal live depends on what you do now, get serious about your place in this life, quit defiling the creation that God made perfect in His eyes, turn to Him in true faith, trusting that He will come through to help you..
