Steve Teachings

Our teaching today is from Romans Chapter 8. Romans Chapter 8 breaks down what it means to be a Christian and how to walk a Christian life. It establishes who really is a member of the family of God, and who is opposed to God.

There is a very disturbing epidemic that is plaguing United States today and most people don't even realize that it is happening. There is an all out assault on the youth of this country by forces and people that are hell bent on teaching our kids that there is no such thing as God, and that all those events that happened in the bible are fabrications that were never true.

We are being assaulted by different factions in this country that are trying to make what is wrong to be what is right. Laws are being passed, or put on ballots, that are trying to eliminate moral truths and freedoms that we as American have known since the founding of this country.

Laws, that were established in our Constitution, were put there, to protect the citizens of this country from interference from government, political factions and outside forces that would threaten our freedom to gather together, to worship and pursue peace.

The sad truth is, the American youth of today, is the most godless generation that has ever existed in the United States since this country was established in 1776.

Some have been brought up by parents who were drug or alcohol dependent, some have been brought up by activists who are always more involved with their cause than their kids, some were brought up in homes where both parents pursued careers and were never around to really parent their kids.

Because of some these factors, our youth have developed some very destructive behaviors. They have grown up without boundaries; they have been desensitized to violence, they are disrespectful and arrogant, and they lack a sense of responsibility and accountability.

Is this their fault ?

No. It is our fault.

We as parents are supposed to love our children enough to guide them into a lifestyle of peace and prosperity. We have instead, led them down roads of betrayal, we have destroyed the stability they needed in their lives by divorcing husbands and wives because of “irreconcilable differences”, we have taught them to believe that life is about getting what you want no matter how you want to get it.

We have been the examples of everything that is wrong in this society, and then we wonder why they are so screwed up ?

Look around, are these kids who we wonder so much about, responsible for screwing up this country ?

Are they responsible for all the greed that has taken place over our banking system and Wall Street for the last 40 years ?

I don't think so. Our kids are only what we have programmed them to be.

Is that true about all parents ?

Not at all, there are a lot of good parents trying to do the right thing with their kids.

If that is true than why do their kids turn out so bad sometimes ?

The answer is simple, we are born opposed God and everything He stands for. We either stand on one side of the fence, or the other. We are either for God and righteousness, or for sin and death, it is really just that simple.

In Romans Chapter 8 we are going to learn about four principles that should guide our lives and walk with God. For the next four weeks we will break down this chapter and all the life lessons that will have a lot of healthy food for our souls.

1. Freedom from indwelling sin in our lives.
2. Sonship through the Spirit of God.
3. From Suffering to Glory
4. God's everlasting love for us.

Freedom from indwelling sin in our lives.

There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

The first part of this scripture says that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. That is very simple and self explanatory. If you have Jesus in you, you will not be condemned to hell.

Is hell a real place ?

I believe it is, but you might not. And because of that, many people don't have a fear of God, or the consequences of sin in their lives. They don't believe that there is a punishment for living a sinful wicked life. They don't believe in a place that has everlasting torment and suffering. Some think that when you die everything just goes black.

How did they come to that conclusion, and what facts do they base their conclusion on ?

They just did and that's all they need to know. I personally would need to know more than that if I'm going to stake my eternity on what I believe. Just assuming myself to be right, without some kind of solid evidence, would be spiritual suicide.

Some people like to gamble, but do you know what is wrong about gambling ?

The odds are always against you. You are trying to beat a system that is designed for you to loose, no matter how much money you put into it. It's like winning a few battles, but loosing the war. You never come out ahead in the long run.

But that is how some people are willing to disregard any evidence that their counterparts might impart to them. No matter what you tell them, they just won't take any warning into account, because they are born to oppose God and His righteousness, because they are born with an inherited sin in their DNA.

That is why God had to come up with a set of Laws, Ten Commandments, that we were to live by to have peace and prosperity in our lives. Laws, that would help us to understand what is right and what is wrong, a set of laws to help us know what our boundaries were to be so that we protected ourselves and our neighbors around us.

Do you know what the problem was with those Laws He gave us to follow ?

No one could do them. No matter how hard anyone tried, there was no way that they could keep them the way they were intended to be kept. They were God's law's, they were too righteous for people with sinful DNA to do. It wasn't in us to do it, by our natures were not able to make it happen no matter how badly we wanted it to happen.

Was that some kind of cruel joke that God was playing on us ?

Not at all, God just knew how the war was going to end. God knew we couldn't keep those laws… He knew that it was going to take someone who was different than everyone else.. He knew that it would take someone who was born in a very unique way in order to live the kind of life that need to be lived… He knew it would take a Savior born of a virgin, with unblemished DNA, to live the life that His laws requires us to live.

The Law, better known as the 10 Commandments, was called the law of sin and death because no human being could live and fulfill it.

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, Romans 8: 2-3

We did not have the right stuff, we were impure, flawed and blemished. It wasn't going to happen, the outcome for our lives was going to be hopeless and dismal, unless there was a way to purify ourselves and free us from our DNA curse. We needed a stand in for our sin, unless there was an intercession, we were going to be doomed to eternal separation from God, doomed to eternal suffering, and doomed to eternal hopelessness.

Do you know what the worst thing about hell is ?

There is hopelessness magnified beyond what we can feel and imagine in these bodies we live in. What we can try imagine hopelessness be right now, as bad as we try to make ourselves feel, hopelessness in hell is so much worse than anything we can possibly come up with now in our imagination. I had a dream one night that rattled me for weeks afterward, I saw a man in hell suffering, in complete and utter terror.

Do you know how I knew he was in utter terror ?

Because he looked right into my eyes and that was all I needed to see. It was pitch black, except for the light that was on this guy, and he was on his knees sobbing miserably. Then he would scream out, Help Me, Help Me !!!

Do you know what it sounds like when someone screams, how it carries through the neighborhood ?

Well he was screaming Help Me, Help Me!!! Over and over, but his words didn't carry. It was like he was in a sound proof room and when he screamed, the sound died just past his lips.

Then the Lord or an angel asked me, do you know what the very worst thing about hell is ?

I said what. He said you can call out to God as much as you want, and He will never hear you. You will never get out, and you will never have any hope at all, ever. We needed a stand in to keep us from ending up the way that the man I saw in hell in my dream did. God wants to have fellowship with us, because He loves His creation. He loves, each and every one of all of us, and wants to save us from what is to surely going to come.

If we have blemished DNA, then how is that going to happen ?

From the beginning of man's fall in the garden, God promised a savior.

And I will put enmity between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.” Genesis 3:15

What is an enmity ?

A deep-seated dislike or ill will towards someone or something.

God said to the serpent, who was Satan, that He was going to send someone in the future, who hated him as much as he hated God's creation, that would destroy all the works that he did as well as the evil he has brought on God's creation, by this man that was going to be coming in the future sent by God.

But You are He who took Me out of the womb; You made Me trust while on My mother's breasts. I was cast upon You from birth. From My mother's womb You have been My God. Psalm 22:9-10

This man that was coming in the future, was going to be touched by God from inside His mother's womb. He was going to be God's chosen from the very conception, but He couldn't be born as we were because he would be flawed like we were so there had to be a miracle take place in order for him to be born sinless.

Then he said, “Hear now, O house of David! Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will you weary my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel. 15 Curds and honey He shall eat, that He may know to refuse the evil and choose the good. Isaiah 7:13-14

Not only was He going to be born of a virgin, but the exact place that He was going to be born was also prophesied:

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting.” Micah 5:2

Our Savior was going to be conceived in the womb, He was going to be impregnated into a virgin, in a town called Bethlehem. That is exactly how it had to be, because our Savior, had to be free of the curse of sin that every human is born with and live a life without blemish.

He had to be God in the flesh and live a perfect life in order to fulfill the law righteously, He had to come as a man as we are, and be tempted with the same temptations that we were tempted with, feel sorrow like we felt, feel pain like we feel, and die as men die so He could fulfill one last prophecy, the most important prophecy, He had to raise from the dead and conquer death and hell.

Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope. 10 For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. Psalms 16:9-10

Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, His body could not decay at all in order to free us from the law of sin and death. When He rose from the dead, Satan was defeated and we now have access to God's mercy and grace, if we ask for it.

10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand. 11 He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities. Isaiah 53:10-11

We are no longer strangers, we are the family God, if we are seeking the kingdom of God and it's righteousness, with a renewed mind looking to our hope of redemption.

5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

But if we choose not to be then there is a cost:

6. For to be carnally minded is death, 7. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
